Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club
The guest speaker this week at the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club was District Governor, Claudia Frost who shared many highlights of both International and District 7780 activities and news. Claudia was an energizing and engaging speaker. She reviewed the meaning of our logo. The purple circle designed from inspiration of indigenous people meaning we all sit in a circle, all equal. The 7 dots for 7 chairs and the 7 areas of focus. The green line a “dig stick” indicating the work we do. The now official all yellow wheel, shown below. We must continue to support and advocate for all people.
Rotary clubs are supported by International Rotary and our District 7780 helps us to interface with them. In an inverted pyramid the individual Rotarians are at the base of the pyramid then the Rotary Club, the Zone or training area, and then the district; putting the individuals first, making up and inspiring our work; remembering to welcome all. Diversity, equity, and inclusion being our goals.
The district is available to answer questions help us advocate for our purpose.
Our club can be proud of our $10,000 to annual fund and $1500 to polio plus. We have active leadership, fund raising such as the barn, and many service projects. Claudia applauded our active efforts to keep Rotary visible in both local newspaper articles and regular Facebook entries.
Meeting highlights:
● Next meeting our program presenter will be Cindy Wade, President of Lincoln Health.
● Guests were welcomed and Vicki Haugen was inducted into our club. Vicki, a registered nurse, is already known in the community as a person who is always willing to lend a helping hand. Case in point, we announced a need for a new volunteer to read and record the Boothbay Register for the visually impaired. Vicki immediately volunteered to help. The program, run by Wells and Mollie Moore, helps keep our visually impaired neighbors up on what is happening in their own communities. Thanks, and welcome, Vicki!
● Monday community lunches will begin Monday at Brady's Restaurant. Our club is scheduled to host on Halloween. This Monday will support the recent home fire.
● In keeping with an annual tradition, Rotarians volunteered to work the Snack Shack at Sherman Field for Senior Night for the fall athletes last Friday night. This allows parents who usually work concessions to enjoy the time as they are recognized with their seniors. Karen Pritchard, Deb Graves, Brian MacGrath and Jim Herbold reported the burgers and fries were flying. Go Seahawks.
The big, gray Rotary Barn at 66 Montgomery Road is still open. Come visit every Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. for a fabulous selection of gently use furniture, boats, tools, pots/pans, jewelry and now Christmas decorations too. Proceeds from the sales go to many local organizations.
We are accepting donations call or text Deb at 207-380-3550 to arrange a pick up by our friendly pick up crews or a drop off at a preferred time. We also accept drop offs during our Saturday mornings.
Community members, visiting Rotarians, neighbors and friends interested in the fun and work of Rotary always welcome to our weekly meetings at our Clubhouse, 66 Montgomery Road. Meetings start at 6 p.m. with a buffet dinner created by our chef Amy Ronan, followed by a interesting speaker or activity.
