Boothbay baseball blanks Spruce Mountain, 4-0
Boothbay didn't hit Spruce Mountain pitching very well, on May 26, recording only one hit. The Boothbay defense didn't field all that well either, commiting four errors, but Boothbay did pitch extremely well. Casey Phelps pitched a complete game in Boothbay's 4-0 victory over the Phoenix, under the lights at Sherman Field, in Mountain Valley Conference action.
Phelps allowed three hits, struck out 10 and walked none. He threw 67 strikes in his 94 pitches. Boothbay improves to 2-10 and is in ninth place in the Class D South standings. Spruce Mountain drops to 2-9 in Class B South.
Phoenix pitching didn't allow an earned run, but two costly errors resulted in allowing four unearned runs. Phoenix pitchers struck out 13 and walked six. Matt Reed had Boothbay's only hit with a single.
Boothbay hosts Dixfield (5-7 in Class C South) on Wednesday, May 27 at 4 p.m.
