Boothbay American Legion opens season with 2 road victories
The Boothbay American Legion 36ers "86'd" the competition in the opening week of play. Boothbay began its season with road victories over Windham, 5-3, on June 25, and Skowhegan, 15-1, on June 26.
In Windham, Boothbay started with a three-run first inning. The 36ers had five hits, which included three doubles (Finn Harkins, Maddox Cusumano and Blake Grady). Owen Cotta and Sean Markowitz each had a single. Windham scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Boothbay scored runs in the third and fifth to lead 5-2. Windham scored the game's final run in the bottom of the fifth.
Starting pitcher Hayden Chase pitched three innings allowing three hits, two runs (one earned), and walked one. Grady relieved him and pitched the final four innings. He allowed two hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out five.
In Skowhegan, the 36ers erupted for five first-inning runs and scored eight more in the third en route to a 14-run victory. Boothbay banged out 13 hits in the five-inning, mercy rule-ended contest. Liam Jacobs had three hits, Blade Brann, Grady and Aidan Sanborn each had two hits, and Markowitz, Dom Frisone, Harkins, Shawn Gamage all singled.
Jacobs pitched five innings, allowed one unearned run, walked one and struck out nine.
Boothbay opens its home schedule on Monday, June 30 at Sherman Field versus Farmington.
