Big game and Valentine’s Day

Wed, 02/09/2022 - 8:45am

Even though the New England Patriots aren’t playing in Sunday’s “big game,” we NFL fans will huddle in front of the TV sets to watch the yearly spectacle. Who are you cheering for? I would like to see the Bengals win their first-ever championship. They have come close in their two other appearances, losing 26-21 in 1982 and 20-16 in 1989, to the San Francisco 49ers and Joe Montana. The Los Angeles Rams have won three NFL championships and one Super Bowl title (P.S., They have lost twice to our New England Patriots in the big game). Although the Rams are hosting Sunday’s game, I feel the Bengals still have a good shot at winning. Quarterback Joe Burrow is one of the upcoming stars of the NFL and if the Bengals’ offensive line can neutralize the tough Rams’ defensive line, the game could be in his favor.

Monday is Valentine’s Day. Remember how fun it was exchanging valentines in grade school? I have last year’s valentine from our granddaughter Kayla posted on my home bulletin board. Wonder if she’ll remember me this year – STOP – I never gave her (or her sister Ella) one in return. Bad Papa! I plan on heading out of town to shop on Saturday and perhaps I need to write a message on my hand so I will remember to get a couple of valentines – well, three (one for my wife, Melodee). Don’t forget your Valentine’s Day valentines.

Let’s hope that this week’s warmer weather will help melt the snow and ice we have received over the past couple of storms.

Have a good week and be safe!
