Sept. 1, Boothbay Harbor Sewer District (BHSD) decided not to accept a $2.5 million Federal Emergency Management Agency grant for its climate resiliency project. Operator-in-charge Chris Higgins explained, the district would not be able to meet the expected 2027 use timeline, so it decided to pass on the funds. If the timeline is extended, BHSD may change its decision.

BHSD is also exploring grant funding from USDA Rural Development. 

During BHSD's Aug. 18 meeting, Superintendent Sean Boyd reported a violation for fecal matter content, with one day reaching 83 colonies per 100 milliliters (col/100 ml) when the daily limit is 31. BHSD identified the issue as the lag pump coming on too soon, doubling the flow to the contact tank and reducing the time spent in the tank. Since adjusting equipment, the daily col/100 ml has lowered to single-digit figures. 

Trustees floated investing $50,000 in a three-month CD with First National Bank for 4% interest.
