Article brought me back
Dear Editor:
I read with great interest you recent story titled "Treasure Island" (1/21).
Mrs. Washington was my ninth grade Earth Science teacher at Montclair High School in 1987. When she learned that my family spent our summers on Southport Island, she invited my mom and I out for lunch. Somehow over lunch I became her groundskeeper for the summer doing odd jobs at her inn (landscaping, painting, etc.).
Over lunch she told me stories about the place, that I am far too old to remember much details about these days. I enjoyed my time out there and garnered a deep appreciation of how much that place meant to her.
Finally in the article a call to the superintendent is mentioned, who happened to be my father (Walter Marks).
Your article brought me back four decades and made me realize that it really is a small world.
