Appreciative of Rotary, Harbor Theater
Dear Editor:
I am writing to express my appreciation to the Rotary Club and the Harbor Theater for their generosity and support. I would like to thank the Rotary Club for funding the outing for the Boothbay Region High School junior class and AP Language and AP Literature students to see the movie “Hamnet” at the theater. I would also like to thank them for hosting us and generously offering their space. Their staff were incredibly welcoming, and their combined efforts made this experience possible.
As a result of this support, we were able to watch the film on the big screen during the school day. Opportunities like this are rare, and it was a refreshing and meaningful change from our regular schedule. It allowed students to step outside the classroom while still engaging in an educational experience.
Many students, especially those who have taken Mr. Cherry’s English 10 course, have read “Hamlet.” While I can’t speak on behalf of everyone, watching “Hamnet,” after knowing the original play, gave me a deeper understanding of the context surrounding Shakespeare’s writing, as well as the emotions and experiences that influenced his work. Even for students without prior knowledge of Hamlet, the film offered a valuable educational experience.
It is always encouraging to see the community come together to support students and enhance our learning, even in small but meaningful ways. Experiences like this create lasting positive impressions, and I hope future classes are able to benefit from similar opportunities.
Thank you again to the Rotary Club for funding this outing and to the Harbor Theater for providing their space and hospitality, including a free box of popcorn. This experience was both educational and enjoyable and was greatly appreciated.
