American Legion Post 36
One of my favorite community events each summer is just around the corner, and I hope you'll consider being a part of it.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, Boothbay American Legion Post 36 will once again hold its annual Community Yard Sale on the Boothbay Common. Over the years, this has become much more than just a yard sale. It's a fun community gathering where neighbors reconnect, visitors hunt for bargains, and everyone has the opportunity to support our local veterans.
The American Legion will have hundreds of really great donated items for sale, but we'd also like to invite you to bring your own yard sale to the Common. For just $25, you can reserve a space, plenty of room so just come and set up, and take advantage of the many shoppers who come through during the day. Instead of hoping buyers will find your home, bring your sale to where the customers already are! It's a great opportunity to clean out the attic, basement, garage, or closets while putting a little extra cash in your pocket.
If you don't have enough items for your own sale—or simply don't want the hassle of setting one up, we would be grateful to accept your donations. Clean, usable household items, tools, toys, small furniture, collectibles, kitchen items, and other treasures are always welcome. Every item donated to the American Legion sale helps us raise funds that directly support our veterans, our youth programs, scholarships, patriotic activities, and many other community projects throughout the year.
Of course, if you're a bargain hunter, this is the day for you! One of the joys of yard sales is never knowing what you'll find. You might discover that perfect antique, a fishing rod, a unique piece of artwork, books you've been wanting to read, or something you never knew you needed until you saw it. Half the fun is the hunt!
Events like this remind us what makes the Boothbay region such a special place to live. Neighbors helping neighbors, volunteers giving their time, and the community coming together for a worthwhile cause. Every purchase, every donation, and every yard sale space rented helps the American Legion continue its mission of serving veterans and giving back to the community that has supported us so generously over the years.
If you'd like to donate items, they may be dropped off at the American Legion Hall before the sale. If you'd like to reserve a yard sale space or have questions about the event, please call the Post at (207) 633-4487.
Whether you're selling, donating, shopping, or simply stopping by to visit with friends, we hope you'll join us on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 7 a.m. to noon at the Boothbay Common. Come early, bring your friends, and be prepared, you never know what treasures you'll take home.
We look forward to seeing you there!
