American Legion Post 36
On Friday, Aug. 29, American Legion Post 36 and the Post 36 Corporation officially recognized Jim and Liz Duffy, and General Manager Linda Harriman of Mid-Coast Properties, for their generous donation of a storage unit to the Post.
Although the unit was delivered last May, its value has quickly become clear. The Legion has put it to immediate use—storing items donated by the community, supplies for the upcoming Yard Sale on Oct. 4, and goods destined for veterans in need. Some items are temporarily held before being moved to the Elks storage units in Augusta, where they remain available for veterans statewide.
The Legion is also using the unit for its own “fall cleaning,” safely storing items that need to be preserved without crowding limited office space. This additional capacity helps ensure fundraising efforts succeed, veterans receive support when they need it, and the Post operates more efficiently. The Certificate of Appreciation was presented as a small token of thanks for this incredibly important donation.
Blood Drive – Sept. 4
This Thursday (today, if you’re reading on delivery day) the Legion Hall will host its monthly Red Cross Blood Drive. Donating blood saves lives—there’s no better reason to roll up your sleeve. While you can register on line, walk ins are accepted.
At the same time, hosting these drives is important for Post 36. The Red Cross provides a small payment for use of the facility, making it an important revenue source for the Legion. However, if donor turnout falls below the “magic number” of 27, the Red Cross may move the drive elsewhere. Please consider donating—your generosity supports your Legion and, most importantly, saves lives.
Veterans Information Exposition – Sept. 6
On Saturday, Sept. 6, VFW Post 2197 will host a Veterans Information Exposition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tractor Supply Company, 24 Farley Road, Brunswick. Admission is free. Food will be available for a donation, with proceeds benefiting VFW scholastic programs.
Representatives from VA Togus and the VA Benefits office will be on hand, along with several organizations that provide services and resources for veterans. It’s a great opportunity to connect and learn more about support available to you.
Meetings – Sept. 8
All veterans are invited to join the next Maine Veterans in Need (MVN) Zoom meeting on Monday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. Visit www.maineveteransinneed.us for the link.
That evening, Post 36 will hold its monthly dinner and meeting, with dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by the meeting at 6 p.m.
