American Legion Auxiliary veterans suicide awareness fundraising walk
Consider all the veterans who have been part of your life. Now imagine life without them. The very sad truth is we are losing, nationally, 24 veterans to suicide each day. In response, the American Legion has an ongoing national campaign called Be The One, which strives to educate, destigmatize asking for mental health support, and provide resources for those at risk.
As part of this program, the Boothbay American Legion Auxiliary Unit 36 will host its 4th annual Veterans Suicide Awareness Walkathon on Saturday, June 7 at 10 a.m. (Rain date June 14).This 3-mile fundraiser starts at the Boothbay Harbor Fire Station by the Library, goes through town, onto Barrett’s Park and back again. All donations are tax deductible and will go to Togus VA Medical Center to help our local Maine veterans by further developing educational and outreach mental health programs.
Once again, the Auxiliary isalso asking local businesses and organizations to form teams for the Walk. Last year, groups from J. Edward Knight Insurance, the First National Bank, members of the Boothbay Baptist Church and staff from the Boothbay Regional Elementary School stepped up to show community support. We’re hoping more will join them this year.
How can you Be The One?
