Rockland - The Sail, Power, & Steam Museum in Rockland is thrilled to welcome the duo of harpist Máire Ní Chathasaigh and guitarist Chris Newman from Ireland to the stage on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 7 p.m.
Sail, Power, & Steam Museum is again honored to bring this enchanting duo to an appreciative Midcoast audience. They are recognized as virtuosos on their respective instruments; they are among the most highly regarded Irish traditional musicians playing nationally and internationally today. Ní Chathasaigh has been called the great innovator of modern Irish harping, a player of outstanding technique and imagination.
The press around the world raves about Ní Chathasaigh and Newman, saying: This celebrated partnership of “one of the UK's most staggering and influential acoustic guitarists” (fROOTS) with “the doyenne of Irish harpers” (Scotland On Sunday) and recipient of Irish music's most prestigious award, Traditional Musician of the Year (Gradam Cheoil TG4).
They’ve appeared with their unique musical vision in 22 countries on five continents to venues ranging from the tiniest of village halls to palaces in Kyoto and Istanbul, London's Barbican, Sydney Town Hall and the Philharmonie in Cologne. Their music is a blend of Irish traditional music, hot jazz, bluegrass, and baroque, coupled with new compositions.
Newman and Ní Chathasaigh's performances are eclectic and emotional, but adventurous as well! They combine a breathtaking blend of traditional Irish music, hot jazz, bluegrass and baroque, coupled with striking new compositions and Chris's delightfully subversive wit.
