Veggies to Table is excited to announce that it has been awarded a $4,000 Bowdoin College Common Good grant. This generous funding will be used to support the purchase of essential farming materials, including compost, mulch, and straw.
The grant aims to enhance Veggies to Table's efforts in cultivating a healthy, sustainable food system. By investing in high-quality compost and mulch, the organization will improve soil health and boost crop yields, while straw will be used for mulching, helping to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
"We are incredibly grateful to the Common Good Grant Committee for their support," said Erica Berman, Executive Director of Veggies to Table. "This funding will allow us to continue to provide fresh, nutritious vegetables to our community. We believe in the power of locally grown food, and this grant will help us further our mission."
The Common Good Grant at Bowdoin College involves students in evaluating proposals to determine which local non-profits will receive funding each spring. This competitive initiative, which was founded in 2001, allows students to learn about grants and philanthropy while familiarizing themselves with local organizations. As part of the process, a committee of students visited the Veggies to Table farm to learn about the project they would support.
Vegetables grown at Veggies to Table are distributed to local food pantries and families in need, promoting food security and community wellness. With the funding from the Common Good Grant Committee, Veggies to Table will be able to expand its reach and provide even more fresh produce to those who need it most.
Everything Veggies to Table grows, they donate in collaboration with 35+ local partners, including food pantries, schools, summer lunch programs and hospitals—filling hungry stomachs and lifting spirits along the way.
