Down East Yacht Club winter gathering
Paul and Louise Cowan were the gracious hosts for the March off-season gathering of the Down East Yacht Club. The wonderful view of Cross River from their living room and deck provided an encouraging reminder of the boating season soon to come.
Outside, the weather was beginning to show signs of spring while inside, the environment was celebratory and friendly in the usual custom of DEYC gatherings. As expected several DEYC members took advantage of the occasion to gather with friends and share conversation. At one count, 40-plus members were in attendance. These winter gatherings provide a wonderful option for the DEYC members who stay home parts of the winter to share their love of boating while enjoying an opportunity to stay in touch with friends.
One other big benefit of these gatherings is the food. The usual selection of dishes was amazing. The lighter fare consisted of a wide variety of finger food, chips and dips, cheeses, crackers, veggies and fruits, while every conceivable variety of seafood and a sundry meat display.
Among the usual topics of discussion around the room was the upcoming boating season, the launching party, the annual cruise, mini cruise, day trippers, etc. Paul thanked everyone for attending, several people remarked about the incredibly cold winter, and the hope for warmer weather! There was some discussion about the proposed garage sale and Alex Mulholland and Chrissa Bates reminded us about the April Gathering to be held at their home in East Boothbay. Jane Mulholland reminded the group of upcoming deadlines and future events.
