American Legion Post 36
The exciting news, the bi-monthly, famous, American Legion breakfast will resume on April 8. All your favorite items will be back, including the beloved Belgian waffle station, sponsored by the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council (BRCRC). As always, this is an “all you can eat” breakfast and is open to the community with a suggested donation fee of $8 for adults, $3 for school age kids, and children free under the age of 5. This breakfast is one of our biggest fundraisers that allows us to support our American Legion programs, including the Boys Scout troop and Cub Scout pack we sponsor. We also support those in need through our relationship with the BRCRC.
I am also excited that the Boothbay American Legion Auxiliary is up and running with Mary Ellison at the helm as their president. Of course, they are looking for new members, so if you a grandmother, mother, sister, wife, or female of either an American Legion member or a deceased wartime era veteran, you are eligible to be in the Auxiliary. They will be meeting at the Legion Hall on the same night and time as the Post, second Monday evening each month. And, of course, they will be part of our pre-meeting dinner, served at 5:30 p.m. Contact the Legion Hall (633-4487 or maryellison48@yahoo.com) to learn more about the Auxiliary and how to join.
March 29 was designated last year by an act of Congress as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. It has also been officially recognized by the state of Maine. This event will be celebrated on March 29 at 10 a.m. at the VA Togus and following that at 1 p.m. at the State House. All Vietnam era veterans and families are encouraged to attend both of these events to be officially recognized for your service during that era.
Once again, Boothbay region lobstermen will be hosting lobster boat rides tentatively set for June 10 for all veterans. Past Commander Phil Chapman is again coordinating this effort. Stand by for more details.
The Legion will be having its annual yard sale July 21 on the Boothbay Common. As always, $20 will buy you a booth space or donate your spring cleaning items for the Legion tables to support our programs.
Remember, April 8, 7-9 a.m., all you can eat breakfast at the Legion Hall. See you all there!
