DEYC winter gathering held at Brennan home
It’s winter… what do boaters do in Maine? Well, if you are fortunate enough to be a member of the Down East Yacht Club, you get together monthly with fellow members at a member’s home and share winter stories, spring plans, familiar conversation, great food and favorite drinks.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, some 40-plus members of the Down East Yacht Clubbers gathered at the lovely home of Barbara and Jack Brennan for just such an occasion.
As always, master host Jack Brennan welcomed all with gracious generosity. He recited three of his favorite Irish blessings to initiate the festivities. These well received words of wisdom engendered a great atmosphere for the evening.
Several members reminded folks of important upcoming matters. Andy Mutch was enthusiastic about hosting the February gathering with his wife Alice; Richard DeVries and Linda Davis repeated their invitations to the Sugarloaf Party in March; Bob and Jean McKay presented updated plans for the annual summer cruise in July; Pete Yesmentes offered his thoughts and sought ideas for the monthly Day Tripper events during the summer and Administrative Assistant Jane Mulholland highlighted several reminders, including deadlines and updating roster profiles.
Many small energized groups developed while enjoying lively conversation and sharing a generous array of delicious appetizers and desserts.
Just before breaking up, the levity was interrupted when the group received news that longtime, influential DEYC Past Commodore, Bob McCarthy, had passed away in the company of his devoted wife, Carole and their family. The Club will be diminished by Bob’s passing, but will also be blessed with his memory and Carole’s continued participation.
We look forward to our next occasion.
