Our town
Dear Editor:
Once we were a jeans and plaid shirt
kind of town; chowders and bean
suppers; a kind of town with single-wides
and lobstermen's homes, A make-do kind of town.
Now it's marbled steaks and fancy wines,
motor yachts and fancy sailing boats,
pink shorts for the men, pearls
and lamb's wool for the women.
Sure, the wormers still speed up to the flats,
and in their rubber boots make their
way to Hannaford after a hard day's
work in mud or lobster boat; But ---
the tone has changed, a balance shifted;
What's happened to the town
that people came to
because it was what it was?
Once we were a jeans and plaid shirt
kind of town.
