Same old rhetoric
Dear Editor:
It came as no surprise that Fred Nehring (Letters, 12/10) would once again exploit the tragedy at Sandy Hook to further the left’s anti Second Amendment agenda. After all can’t let a good crisis go to waste.
It should be noted that while Fred is pushing the same old rhetoric, the Washington Post has discovered that what Second Amendment advocates like me have been saying all along is true; none of the gun control measures proposed by the Obama administration and gun grabbers like Fred would have stopped Sandy Hook or any of the rampage shootings we have seen recently.
At the same time we are finding out more and more about the attack by Islamic extremists in San Bernardino that left 14 dead and many more wounded. Islamic terrorists were able to carry out that attack despite living in a state with the most stringent gun control laws in the nation.
The anti gun movement of which Fred is a ardent member want us all to believe that these events happen because of America’s “gun culture” when in fact it is a mental health issue in the case of rampage shooting and “western culture” issue in the matter of the savages attacking a Christmas party in California.
In trying to make his argument for further infringements to our rights, he quotes a decades old study with data is so flawed it is seldom used in a legitimate discourse. The study was completed shortly after the nation’s background check system was established. Small wonder the study is quoted as saying 40 percent of sales did not undergo a background check, those did not exist prior to the study. As I said, same old, tired, worn out rhetoric to push an agenda the majority of Americans don’t support.
