Boothbay Harbor votes

Though the temperature dropped in Boothbay Harbor as the sun set, the number of voters continued to rise. Local residents poured into the town office, eager to have their voices heard on candidates, ballot questions and St. Andrews.
Many residents felt that Question 1 was of particular importance.
“I believe in marriage equality, and equal civil rights for all citizens of this country. And I voted for Barack Obama,” resident Douglas Light said.
Residents Amanda Hutchins and Elaine Plummer both said that voting for the President and on Question 1 were the most important to them.
“It’s a tough one,” Hutchins said about Question 1. “I’ve seen so much on Facebook about it, people for and against arguing. It’s one of the biggest issues I’ve seen.”
Married couple Ed and Maureen Shea both came out in support of President Obama.
“He did a good job for the last four years, and he deserves four more,” Ed Shea said.
“The primary was the main reason I came out, and also in support of Question 1,” Maureen Shea said. “Everyone who is a U.S. citizen should have equal rights, like it says in the constitution.”
Local planning board member June Phillips at the town office as well, running the table with a petition to support the work of the St. Andrews Task Force. Very few voters walked past without signing and sticking a “I signed up to save St. Andrews” sticker next to their “I voted today!” one.
