LCCT launches new play reading series Oct. 26
Lincoln County Community Theater (LCCT), the resident theater company of Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater’s new series will be "Sundays without Scenery: Actors, A Script, and Your Imagination.”
Sundays without Scenery presents a live reading of a contemporary play, which may or may not go on to become a full scale production at the theater.
The actors will have rehearsed, there will be pictures to set the scene, and the audience’s imagination will fill in the void as they listen and engage with the spoken word.
The inaugural offering will be Jane Anderson’s “The Baby Dance” directed by Mary Charbonnet. It will take place at the Lincoln Theater on Sunday, Oct. 26 with shows at 2 and 7 p.m. Each performance will also include a “talk back” session after the performance with the director and cast.
The cast features Nancy Slobodnik, Bill Vaughan, Natasha Salvo, Tom Handel and Thom Watson. Given the subject matter, the play is for mature audiences only.
“The Baby Dance” explores the conflicting and constantly shifting emotions surrounding the idea of surrogacy by following two couples whose lives become intertwined, each with a different goal.
An upscale Los Angeles couple being unable to conceive, arrange to adopt the unborn baby of a desperately poor, pregnant Louisiana woman and her husband. Both sides encounter a minefield of prejudices as they struggle to achieve their needs while maintaining the dignity of all parties.
Tickets, available at the door on the day of performance, none in advance, are $8/adults and $6/theater members.
