All Saints by-the-Sea services begin June 15
All Saints by-the Sea, the Episcopal summer chapel on Southport, will open for the 2014 season on Sunday, June 15, with Holy Communion Services at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. A coffee hour will follow the 10 a.m. service.
The preacher will be the Rev. Maria Hoecker, Rector of St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Boothbay Harbor: www.stcolumbasepiscopal.com. A native of Kansas, Rev. Hoecker received a master’s degree in divinity from the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. While in seminary, she was director of Christian Education at the university parish church and guest editor for two issues of The Sewanee Theological Review. Upon graduation from seminary she served as associate rector of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Brevard, N.C. and served on the diocesan council of Western North Carolina.
In 2011, Maria and her two children put their belongings in storage and spent nine months traveling throughout the United States, covering 23,000 miles in a retrofitted '97 VW Poptop Eurovan camper. It was during this adventure that the Hoeckers found their home in Maine, and their calling with St. Columba's in 2012. In addition to her call to St. Columba's, Hoecker also volunteers as chaplain for the Boothbay Region YMCA.
