It’s never too early to help 'Set for Success'
The students are still in school but the people at “Set for Success” are hard at work behind the scenes making sure that when the kids go back to school in the late summer, they will be decked out with all they need to succeed in their studies. With that in mind, donation bins have been placed at the Bank of Maine in the Meadow Mall, the First Bank on Oak Street, and at Sheer Artistry Family Hair Salon in downtown Boothbay Harbor. Located next to the bins is a poster with a school supply shopping list of those items that each student will need.
So, the next time you go shopping, it would only take a moment to pick up some of these needed items, a backpack, some paper and pens, some notebooks, perhaps a ruler or lunchbox. Items in “like new” condition are also acceptable. Once these items have been collected and gotten ready for distribution, there will be a fun filled day at the YMCA on Sunday, August 17, from 1 to 3 p.m., for each student to pick up his new backpack filled with needed school supplies. There will be local teachers there, as well as hair stylists who will provide haircuts and mini-manicures so that every student can go back to school looking their best.
Set for Success has a very pressing need for volunteers to help get ready for “Distribution Day,” as well as the big day itself. If you have some time to give, please give Sue Burge a call at 207-633-7049. All students are welcome; there are no financial guidelines that need to be met.
If you’d like to help but can’t donate supplies, monetary donations are very welcome as well. Checks can be made payable to: BRCR/Congregational Church, memo line: Set for Success and mailed to BRCR, P.O. Box 468, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, Attn: Carol Ostermann.
