Pomp and circumstance: BRHS graduation ceremony June 6
It's time for visiting relatives, blue and gold balloons, cards and gifts, and the seemingly endless playing of "Pomp and Circumstance," a march composed by Sir Edward Elgar.
It's graduation time again at Boothbay Region High School.
Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at BRHS will be the annual awards and honors exercise but Friday, June 6 is the big day for the 52 graduates; the class day ceremony will begin at 8 a.m., graduation will start at 2 p.m. (doors open at 1 p.m.), and the day concludes with the Grand March and Alumni Ball beginning at 8 p.m. After the ball, the graduates will board a bus for their Project Graduation trip to Niagara Falls.
The Class Day ceremony is a time for classmates to remember their high school days, poke fun at each other with class gifts and to offer predictions on what each classmate will be doing years down the road.
The graduation ceremony will begin with class marshal Josiah Purin leading his classmates to the stage as the Seahawk Symphonic Band plays "Pomp and Circumstance." The Welcoming Address will be given by Robert Campbell, the Honor Essay will be presented by Jude Alamo and the Farewell Address will be given by Sophia Thayer. Superintendent of Schools Eileen King will speak before she and BRHS Principal Dan Welch award the diplomas.
The Grand March and Alumni Ball is sponsored by the Alumni Association. Parents or representatives in the “Parade of Parents” are guests of the Alumni Association, and will be admitted free of charge. At 7:45 p.m., parents will line up in preparation for the “Parade of Parents” into the gymnasium.
Admission for the Graduation Ball is $5 per person, cash only. Tickets are not sold in advance, nor reserved seating available. Doors open at 7 p.m.
