Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club: Thanks for community support
Our February 27 meeting was opened promptly at 6:30 p.m. by President Jen with our greeter Craig Tukey deferring the invocation to Sue Kreahling. Our steward Doug, with the able help of Dwight and Bob, served up a beef stroganoff dish topped off by blueberry cake. Announcements were made for the Basketball Tournament on March 7 and 8 with a sign-up sheet handed around.
On Friday at 2:30, we have Bob Goodrich and Mike Thompson for set-up and Foster and Catherine selling tickets from 3 to 8 p.m., Ham and Jim Stormont as scorers, and Jonathan and Chris Austin working concessions. On Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, Skip and Cy will sell tickets, Rick and Chip are scorers, and Chelsie, Daren and Robin will be our concessionaires. On Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., Steve and Chuck will sell tickets, Ham and (help) will do the scorekeeping, and Connie and Viv will tend the concessions. Saturday night, Brian and Mo will do scorekeeping as we don't need to sell tickets at that time and Laura and Steve will handle the concessions and cleanup with the help of I.J. and Mike. Thank you all who have signed up. We also ask that Rotarians donate baked goods packaged in individual sizes for sale at the concessions.
Jim Botti deserves a large round of thanks for his work on “Stuff the Bus” on February 22. A total of 714 food items and $654 in cash were donated to our local food pantry.
Our Community Fuel Challenge is almost over and we hope that by March 1 we will have reached our goal of $8,000 in matching funds for the fuel assistance fund.
The District Assembly is on March 12 for those new members and any other member who wants to learn more about how Rotary works. Tony reminds us that Rebuilding together day is May 10 and he has lined up a project for the Rotary Club.
Skip collected trivia dollars for questions about polio eradication and many sad dollars for the passing of Mary Jo Zimmerli.
Ham and Mike, treasurers for the Club and Foundation, gave a review of the finances. Both the Club and Foundation are in good financial shape with a monthly accounting given to the board of directors. This is the best and most responsive accounting system the club has had since I have been involved in the 23 years I have been a member and Ham should be given all the credit for his work in this area.
After sharing a list of our foundation donations made year to date, it was decided by the club that this good news should be shared with the entire community. Our fiscal Rotary year does not end until June 30 and thus far we have given more than $38,000 to both community and international projects. Our sincere thanks to everyone in our community who supports Rotary in our mission both at home and around the world.
