Splaine, Perkins vie for school committee seat
A Community School District (CSD) seat is the only one contested out of seven openings in Boothbay Harbor's upcoming officer elections. According to Town Clerk Michelle Farnham, the town received nomination papers for all but one seat.
Tom Perkins is running against incumbent Peggy Splaine for a school committee seat for her expiring term. However, no nominations were filed for a seat on the Boothbay Region Water District Board of Trustees. The seat will be open due to Merritt Blakeslee’s expiring term.
Farnham said the town will offer that seat to the candidate with the most write-in votes. She said if the person does not accept the seat, the board still needs it filled, and must call a special election.
The other seats up for election have current board members as the only candidates. Michael Tomko and Alyssa Allen filed for seats on the Selectboard; Ronnie Campbell filed for a seat on the CSD Board of Trustees; Patricia Minerich filed for a seat on the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Cemetery District Board of Trustees; and Daryl Kipp filed for a seat on the Boothbay Harbor Sewer District Board of Trustees.
Voting for the officers will be held at the Boothbay Harbor Fire Station May 2 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The town meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 3 at the fire station, where the officers will be sworn in.
