Dear Editor:

What an amazing evening was celebrated at the Southport United Methodist Church as folks gathered for a soup supper and Lessons and Carols service. The small choir of the church, along with some guest singers each year, has enjoyed sharing this annual tradition with you.

First, a huge thank you to those who traveled from near and far to sing with us, to Dominic Garvey for sharing his musical talents, and a very special thanks to our talented and dedicated director, Mary Miller, who believes in us and challenges us to do more than we ever think possible.

Many thanks to all the wonderful cooks who contributed soups, breads and yummy desserts and to Ella Beauregard and Madison Hughes for passing out programs and candies. And thank you, Betty and Karen, for your excellent management of the kitchen.

We especially appreciate those of you who each year are willing to join in reading the Scriptures and we thank each and every one of you who attended. We had a full house and your donations will be used to support our local church outreach as we pass it along to the Boothbay Region Community Fuel Fund.

How truly blessed we are to live in such a supportive and caring community. May you all enjoy this beautiful season of Advent as we await the arrival of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
