Still time to enroll in Fit, Flexible & Strong wellness program
The Boothbay Region Health Center’s very popular wellness program for seniors—Fit, Flexible & Strong—led by Mary Baudo, still has openings for people who sign up before Nov. 1.
The program focuses on balance, strength, flexibility, posture, and wellness topics. Other forms of exercise, such as chair yoga, mind/body, and brain health exercises are also offered. There are three sessions each week from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. The classes are held at the Southport United Methodist Church.
Anyone 55 or over is welcome to sign up for the program. Exercises may be seated or standing, depending on your capabilities. Each session includes a 15-minute “chalk talk” about a wellness topic and 45 minutes of exercising, carefully monitored by Mary to be sure that our form is correct for each routine.
Many of the people in the program are veterans, having been participating for five years or more. The dedication of this group of participants is a testimonial to the value we all place on this wellness program that, in fact, keeps us all Fit, Flexible & Strong as we age. This is not a program you can “drop in on.” Each participant receives three medical, fitness, and posture assessments each year, before the sessions start, midway through, and at the end. The fee is an affordable $50/month paid in advance each month.
