Learn how to drive
This letter is aimed at the Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor public works department.
On November 24, I was absolutely astonished to see that the roads had been heavily salted and sanded. There was only a 1/16 inch of snow. What a waste of taxpayer money. Any excuse to salt and sand. The workers love the overtime. The only place on the road were there was ice was were the salt melted the 1/16 inch of snow ran down the road and froze. What happened to just using sand?
If you cannot drive an automobile in those conditions, you should not be driving. The public works is totally out of control, just like the state of Maine. I drove into Boothbay Harbor to see the state not only sprayed liquid salt on the roads, but you could also see were they had their plows down.
Talk about wasting the taxpayers’ money. The state insists on spraying liquid salt even though a few years ago the people of Maine gathered enough signatures to have this taken off our roads. This liquid is eating away at vehicles at an unbelievable rate. The auto companies love it. The company that manufactures this product lobbied the politicians to buy their product, the same as the salt industry. The insurance companies encourage their use. The towns over use their supplies, then ask for more money the next year because they ran out. Another excuse to up your taxes.
You people who cannot drive safely in rain or snow or slick conditions should stay at home until the roads are clear. Wake up and learn how to drive, people.
