The sign is back
Dear Editor:
On October 28, 2013 the Boothbay Register ran the story, “Where is the Boothbay sign?” The story caused a small chuckle from the road foreman and the town manager because the project had been in the works for over a year. We have done some major projects that received less press coverage. We underestimated the curiosity of residents during routine maintenance of our entryway sign.
When residents and guests gaze at the beautifully restored gateway sign to Boothbay on the way into town, we would like to recognize the craftsman. Jon Marsh, owner of J.C Marsh Signs, has created and restored several stunning signs for the town, in the last few years. The “Welcome Back to Boothbay” sign in East Boothbay and the Boothbay Fire Department sign are Mr. Marsh’s creations.
The town of Boothbay appreciates all of the local vendors that we get to work with. Some do the grueling work that no one will ever appreciate, like E.M. Wood hauling the winter sand this year. The Center Café fed the election clerks lunch on November 5th. Leighton and Associates is working with the town assessor on new tax maps.
Still, there is something extra special about having a unique craftsman in your town that can put the final touches on our beautiful town and reassure the public that the town sign has been proudly restored.
