Dear Editor:

Third Thursday — it's easy to remember.

I would like to publicly offer my applause to the Boothbay Region Health and Wellness Foundation. The first of the group’s forums was a well organized, extremely informative evening. The presenters were exceptional and questions were readily answered.

As I drove home, I felt amazed that a group of volunteers had morphed into such a powerhouse of passion and drive for their community. The information presented was so relevant for so many; I'm not yet in need of senior services. I have the information to share though and if the need arises, I have it filed so that I can contact the appropriate people.

Before the evening ended we were told that the next forum was going to be about health insurance, offering us clear explanations of how the Affordable Healthcare Act will effect us and explaining what the options are available to have us make the right choices for our needs. Thank you!

I honestly feel as though you have our backs; we did not ask you to find answers for questions we haven't necessarily asked. You have declared your mission to “promote the health and wellness” of the residents of our peninsula. Congratulations.

I haven't yet become a member of the foundation. I will at the Third Thursday on November 21. I would encourage folks to step out of their evening comfort zone and join the conversation — see what they have to offer you.
