Judy Nixon art show at First Federal
Currently on exhibition at the First Federal Savings and Loan Bank in Boothbay Harbor is an assortment of art works by Judy Nixon, one of the Boothbay art community’s newer artists. Nixon's works, displayed through December 27, have been included in galleries and showings throughout the midcoast Maine region.
Using water color and the natural beauty of the Maine landscape that surrounds her, Nixon has presented an exhibition of beauty and color. Although her primary medium is watercolor, she also enjoys Asian brush, acrylics and oils, and creating monotypes and collages. Images of her artwork are also used to make unique notecards and calendars.
Nixon is a member of the Pemiquid Group of Artists, Kenebec Valley Art Assoc., the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, the River Arts in Damariscotta as well as the Boothbay Region Art Foundation. She has participated in local art exhibits and benefit auctions. She has been the recipient of many awards at juried shows in the Augusta and Midcoast region.
Until she moved to Bristol in 1999, Nixon had lived almost entirely in Massachusetts. Her professional life's focus was in accounting. By the mid '90s, drawing and painting began as a hobby. She soon realized that the atmosphere and beauty of a small town, the seashore, the rocky coastlines that abutted inland farms, and lake areas were tremendous inspirations for anyone interested in the arts.
Nixon began taking lessons, learning from both her instructors and fellow students, and joined art groups and associations.
Look for Nixon's favorite work of the exhibit, “Lost in Thought,” whose subject is her step-daughter. The painting is on the immediate right upon entering the bank. One can sense the affection in the composition.
Those interesting in purchasing Nixon's work or commissioning future work can reach her by phone, 207-563-7739, or email, hernix4@550access.com.
