The Boothbay Region Health & Wellness Foundation held a poster/art contest for the best poster to promote our efforts to Save St. Andrews’ Hospital. A panel of five Foundation Board members selected the finalists on August 17 and the prizes were awarded on Monday, Aug. 19 at a Board luncheon.
The winners were: Sophie Rose Lance in the “10 and under” category, for a prize of $10; Kate McPhee in the “11- to 18-year-old” category, for a prize of $250; Sarah Lance, in the “over 18” category, for a prize of $500.
All three artists are seasonal visitors to the peninsula, and St. Andrews Hospital, with its 24-hour Emergency Room, has been an important fixture in their lives. Sophie and Sarah Lance live in Bedford, Mass., and Kate lives in Winchester, Mass. Sophie visits her grandparents in Boothbay each summer, taking advantage of the Y-Arts camps.
Kate has been coming to Boothbay Harbor since she was a little girl and has had several very interesting experiences with the Emergency Department at St. Andrews, coming in both by land and by boat. Kate is planning to use her winnings to help further her education.
