Blindsided
Dear Editor:
As former “summer people,” we moved to East Boothbay 37 years ago, choosing to live here, work, and raise the last of our children. And, yes, we have seen a lot of changes in the region.
Many times I have read a news story or a Letter to the Editor in the Register and mentally written a response or retort. As an employee of both the region's Chambers of Commerce, I knew that I should not express any political or controversial views.
Until now.
I was stunned to read that Nancy Cunningham was “ousted” from the Boothbay Planning Board. Why? She has worked very hard to follow rules and regulations, has been knowledgeable, cooperative and well-read as to what the Planning Board should do, versed in town affairs, and a member of the Board for 12 years, the last five years as its chairman.
Of course, she was blind-sided. You do your job to the best of your ability, spend many hours researching to vote correctly, work diligently on ordinance changes and, without warning, are voted off the Board. No complaints. Whim of two selectmen. Gone. Unbelievable.
Why would anybody else want to be appointed to the Planning Board? How much could they learn to bring the Board up to par again?
