We deserve an explanation
Dear Editor:
I was concerned to read that the Boothbay selectmen chose not to reappoint either Nancy Cunningham (chairman) or Michael Pander (vice chairman) to the Planning Board. I do not know them.
Your article gives a "sort of" reason for the ouster of Michael Pander in that he voted against the application for the Boothbay Craft Brewery and the selectman want a "more business friendly" direction for the board. Your reporter aptly notes that he was notified by email which certainly will not encourage the "new blood" for which Mr. Harmon is looking.
Nancy Cunningham has obviously devoted years of her time and services as a volunteer citizen to the town of Boothbay. She voted for the Brewery so it would seem that the Brewery is not the reason for letting them go. So what is it?
As a common courtesy these people are owed an explanation for what appears to be devious action. We as taxpayers are owed the reasoning that went into making this decision because it will complicate the planning board ordinance review for the Nov 12 slate referendum.
