Re-launching the Hummer
After much discussion and years of delays, we will re-launch the Hummer.
Our 13-foot skiff has been in storage for about 10 years. As many seasoned yacht people know, keeping a wooden boat out of the water for a long time is not particularly good for the wood, or the boat.
In our case, keeping our vessel in storage was probably not a bad idea; it kept us off the water and possibly saved others from colliding with us. We are seasoned sailors.
When our girls were young we had some fun voyages, caught our first mackerel (hmmm) and learned how to “park” in crowded marinas with other extravagant yachts. Our knowledge runs deep. We were indomitable pirates of the high seas and proud of it.
Now, years later, we are bringing back the Hummer and hoping to use this public forum to alert the boating public, “WE ARE BACK!” From Ebenecook to Damariscove, we will traverse. Hide your Hinckleys, guard your “One designs,” protect the offshore drilling rigs! Wind machines, beware! John Druce, watch your dock!
If George Pew could see us now he would come alongside in “Dragon Lady” and take away our keys. “But officer, we never saw the red light on our right, returning. We just thought you were excited to see us.” I will miss George, but know that he will be on the water somewhere.
There will be a small launching party for Hummer, but we're not sure yet what we will be celebrating, or where.
