Dear Editor:

A heartfelt thank-you to all the volunteers, generous donors, and special thanks to community members who stepped in to help out where badly needed at the Southport Methodist Church Country Fair on Wednesday, July 17. Thanks, too, to all the fairgoers who came to shop, enjoy lobster or chicken roll lunches, the cookie walk and spent generously throughout.

Southport Island is a very special community and the fair is truly a community effort. Our little Church on the Hill is a wonderfully supportive family which works hard to put the Fair together each year.

Without the generosity of businesses and artists in the area who donate merchandise and gift certificates, people who donate treasured items from their homes and hours of their time, we could never stage an event of this size. The weather was sunny and hot but the heat failed to wilt our spirits. It was a wonderful crowd that came to have fun at the fair.

With the success of the fair, our members will be able to maintain the church and fulfill our ministry to the community, sponsor scholarships and be ready to help when and where there is a need.
