Bad cell phone reception
Dear Editor:
I just got back from spending a couple of weeks in the Boothbay area. I have a home in Sprucewold and try to get up there as often as I can. The cell phone service has always been spotty at best but this time it was worse than usual. Basically, once you get south of Edgecomb with AT&T, you are out of service.
My Boothbay Register from June 20th was waiting for me when I got home with the lead story about community concern about more cell towers in East Boothbay. I find it hard to believe that the our town committee speaks for a majority of residents and visitors to the area. Most of the people I have talked to in the area lament the lack of cell service on the penisula rather than bemoan ugly cell towers.
This is the 21st Century. Cell phones are a part of life. Many of us who visit regularly have to stay in touch with our families or businesses. Poor cell service can cause people to look elsewhere to spend their time. Places that are better connected. I know the peninsula is special and there is the desire to get away from the daily grind of urban life but a few extra cell towers does not seem to me to be an awful price to pay to be able to communicate with that world while enjoying the pleasures of Maine.
