Fifty attend Rotary Valentine's dinner
The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club held its annual Valentine's Dinner for 50 members, spouses and guests Thursday evening Feb. 12 at the new club house off Montgomery Road.
After cocktails, President Dwight Swisher welcomed all and thanked the Boothbay Rotary Interact club’s eight-person crew for setting and serving Kim Mills’ fine dinner of beef stroganoff, stuffed haddock or seafood Newburg topped by a chocolate Valentine’s cake with raspberry sauce.
Dwight then thanked dinner chairman Connie Jones and her committee of Judy deGraw, Deb Graves, Joy Ward and Jean Huber for orchestrating the evening and all those who brought appetizers.
At this Valentine’s celebration, love and laughter were in the air as Jim Botti, Chip Griffin, Ham Meserve, Cy Seifert and Connie were coaxed into sharing stories about how they met their spouses.
Dwight then introduced the exceptionally talented and skillful Boothbay Pickers, Noel Arrington and Gabe Tonon, who entertained for an hour with selections from their large repertoire of dual guitar songs that can also be heard Wednesday nights at Mama D’s.
President Dwight noted it was particularly appropriate to have the Pickers play that night as so many impromptu and informal Rotary committee meetings took place at Mama D’s (which is owned by Noel’s Valentine, partner Lorie Demers).
Dwight noted Mama D’s now had a beer and wine license for those Wednesday evenings to accompany their dinner menu.
“I can’t imagine a better way to spend a Wednesday night out of the cold and dining on Lorie’s excellent cuisine.”
The Rotary Club meets each week on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. at their club house on 66 Montgomery Road, Boothbay Harbor. The club welcomes friends, community members, and visitors alike to attend their dinner meetings.
