Soak up the benefits of cold water with 'The Little Dippers'
On Saturday, May 17, a short documentary by a local filmmaker will be screened for the public at the Harbor Theater at 1 and 3 p.m. The film features the local cold water enthusiast group The Little Dippers, and takes a deep dive on how the group was started and the profound impact it has had. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Set in the Boothbay Region of Maine's Midcoast, this group of individuals sought relief from a variety of ailments in the cold water. Some needed the cold water to treat physical pain, others came for the mental and emotional relief the water could offer. As more and more people joined their group, the original members found solace and meaning in much more than cold itself.
The film features Morgan Mitchell and Andrei Bazaiac, and was shot and edited in the winter of 2025 by new Boothbay Harbor resident, Mike Mallen. It includes the accounts of a dozen other members of the group, and is accompanied by visuals of the beautiful landscapes of Maine's winter coastline.
The theater seats 175 people, and most of the Little Dipper members will be in attendance. The film's run time is approximately 30 minutes. Food and beverages will be available for sale at the theater kiosk, and although admission is free, a donation box will be set up on location to help cover the costs of the screening. Suggested donation is $3 per attendee and will be greatly appreciated.
