How goes the BRHS School Spirit Challenge?
Boothbay Region High School is still raising money for the WGME School Spirit Challenge to benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank and the Boothbay Region Food Pantry.
At the basketball game on Friday, Feb. 6, admission was by donation. In total the school raised $1,200, which equals 6,000 pounds of food.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, the Boosters Club will be donating 30 perfect of all money raised from concessions sold at the MVC championship games to the School Spirit Challenge. They are looking for donations of bottled water, soda, hot dogs, rolls and white bread. Heather O'Brien will be at BRHS Thursday at 3 p.m. to accept donations.
The Seahawks quilt raffle is going strong, with tickets available at the high school office or Hawke Motors. The quilt was handmade by Lynn Welch, and the winner will be drawn during the pep rally on Feb. 27 from 6 to 8 a.m., and the public is welcome to come.
The school is selling T-shirts as well. One side says “Seahawk Nation” with a soaring hawk, and the other side says “Going for the Gold!” in gold lettering. The shirts are $10 each, with all proceeds going directly to the School Spirit Challenge. Local business Harbor Embroidery helped BRHS with the shirts, which will go on sale Thursday afternoon and will be available in the high school office.
There is also a dance for high school students on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, to raise funds. The dance is from 7 to 10 p.m. and will take place in the BRHS cafeteria.
Donations can also be made online at www.gsfb.org/donate/vfd/?id=372. As of Feb. 10, online donations totaled $345.
There are nine schools participating in the event this year.
“There are some big schools in the group,” Principal Dan Welch said. “But this is a great community for something like this.”
