Boothbay Y girls travel team wins tournament

The Boothbay Region YMCA seventh and eighth grade girls travel basketball team holds the championship trophy at the Spruce Mountain tournament on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Boothbay Region YMCA seventh and eighth grade girls travel basketball team won a double-elimination tournament held at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay Feb. 7 and 8.
Boothbay won its first game, 33-27, against Lawrence, then had to play out of the losers' bracket after losing to Winslow, 45-40.
Returning to Jay on Sunday, Boothbay easily won its next three games; Spruce Mountain, 47-27; Auburn, 49-33; and Oxford Hills, 51-32.
Boothbay met up with Winslow once again in the championship game, this time winning, 44-40.
The team, coached by Lesley and Brian Blethen, includes eighth graders Faith Blethen, Ashley Abbott, Helen Hamblett, Maggie Larson, Hannah Gentry and Alexis Davison, and seventh graders Katie Larson, Josey Smith, Chloe Arsenault, Maisy O'Brien and Maddy Faulkingham.
