Balancing Our Bodies, Balancing Our LIves

About this blog:

  • Most alternative solutions are based on knowledge gleaned from ancient, indigenous cultures, reaching back over 3,000 years and had been lost to us in our medical mire of high technology, HMO’s, and insurance driven care. In my opinion it is this medical swamp that has driven Americans into the offices of alternative practitioners throughout the country; spending billions of dollars looking for relief and cures for the enormous increase in cancer, auto-immune diseases, and chronic conditions that have no magic cures or quick fixes from the medical community.

Holistic medicine and alternative modalities have become much more available over the last 25 years witnessed by the boom in yoga classes, energy workers, naturopathic physicians and massage therapists in every community. In general, Holistic Medicine is an attitudinal approach to healing. It looks at each case, be it an accident or disease, as a total experience of the individual – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. In most cases in modern medicine the injury or illness is segregated and only the affected area is treated. Holistic means greater than the sum of its parts. In a holistic approach to healing the focus is on the whole person not on the disease or injury.

Professor Woodson Merrill from Columbia Medical School states, “If you don’t help patients to harness their own healing capacities, you are putting them at a significant disadvantage” In the months to come I hope to offer some “Alternative Solutions” that will assist you in harnessing your own healing abilities.

One think I learned from my mother at a very young age was the importance of balance in our lives. Of course, I have since discovered that allowing balance to govern the way I live my life precluded my becoming a dancer on Broadway or best-selling author; both of which would require obsessive focus.  But there it is…keeping balance in my life has been at the forefront of most of the major decisions in my life and I’ve realized that it has served me well.

I guess it is no coincidence that for much of my career I have been involved in helping others to find balance in their lives. I have done this through Career/Life Coaching and using a variety of Alternative Solutions to uncover and release the core belief systems that we have accepted over time to be the only way to live our lives. In following these belief systems without validating their usefulness we sometimes find ourselves so out of balance that we become ill.

My passion for working with energy and learning everything I could about it led me to a in-depth understanding of the Chakra System and the importance of clearing and balancing the Chakra System for optimum health.

The chakras system is the energy system in our body that connects us to our spirit or higher self; the part of us that knows how to heal ourselves.  In other words, the chakra system is our energetic connection to the realm of pure consciousness and our spiritual essence. Many have realized that the energetic operations in them are what make every aspect of us possible: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.   Each of the seven major chakras, or primary energy centers has its own character and corresponds to a unique aspect of our being.  They are patterns of energy and are shaped something like funnels or whirlpools of energy.  Their vortices lie inside the body, along the spinal cord (which corresponds to a central energy channel) and up into the head.

Because the chakra system is the central processing center for every aspect of our being, blockages or other energetic dysfunction in the chakras usually gives rise to disorders in the body, mind, or spirit.  A defect in the energy flow through any given chakra will result in a defect in the energy provided to certain portions of the physical body, as well as an impairment in the entire energy field’s ability to process energy – affecting all levels of the being.  This is because the energy field is a holistic entity; every part of it affects every other part.

The chakras do not actually exist as “objects” in the physical body (they are energy patterns) but there are certain specific locations on the body, where you will place your hands, that correspond to the charkas - five along the spine (just in front of the spine) and two on the head.  Each chakra also has a certain true color of the visible light spectrum associated with it – the intrinsic color of the chakra.  Because the charkas are spiritual entities, it is impossible to convey a complete explanation of the nature of each chakra in words alone, but the chart below will introduce the nature of each.

It has always been my understanding that deep emotional release work needs to be done at the cellular level engaging the seven major chakras in the clearing process. It always amazes me that most of the time, although not always, fear is in the throat chakra, sadness and unresolved grief show up as heaviness in the chest (heart chakra), and anger, frustration and resentments are in the belly. Once a client is in an altered state of consciousness (deep relaxation), we can determine exactly where the clearing and balancing needs to occur and this generally leads to the gentle, yet powerful release of energy blockages caused by emotional build up over time.

I use a number of healing modalities in the “Deep Emotional Release” work that I offer, but I am always working with the Chakra System. And I have realized over the years that my mother was right...balance is the secret to having a happy and healthy life.
