'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown'
The Lincoln Theater’s resident theater company, LCCT, will present “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” the revised classic musical based on the Peanuts comic strip, beginning August 15.
While we know the characters (Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, Sally and others) are children, there are a few adults who are frequently mentioned in the strip: Miss Othmar, Joe Shlabotnik, and Mr. and Mrs. Brown.
The faces of adult characters who interact with the children are never seen in the Peanuts comic strip and hardly anything is known about them.
However, the presence of adults has been indicated in a number of ways. Schulz said that grown-ups just did not interest him.
The absence of adults also gives Peanuts a unique point of view, bringing the comic down to the level of children, and not children from an adult's viewpoint.
Perhaps it’s a chance for adults to learn more about a child’s perspective on the world without judging it, but rather by enjoying it through humor?
“You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” opens at Lincoln Theater in downtown Damariscotta on Thursday, August 15 through Saturday, August 17 at 7:30 p.m. with two matinees on Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18 at 2 p.m.
