Wound Care Center partnership offers latest technology, local providers
Meet the providers and staff of the new state-of-the-art LincolnHealth Wound Care Center at its grand opening and open house on Wednesday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Located on the bottom floor of the Family Care Center at 6 St. Andrews Lane in Boothbay Harbor, the wound care center is a partnership of LincolnHealth Hospital and Healogics, a national wound care provider and leader in wound care research. All are welcome to join the staff for refreshments at the open house, which will be catered by the Boothbay Center Café.
The new center features physician-led teams that specialize in difficult-to-heal wounds that can be the result of diabetes, poor circulation and other chronic conditions. With more than 500 wound centers nationwide, Healogics uses proven technology and the world’s largest database of wounds to determine the best treatment for every patient so they can get back to their normal lives as quickly as possible.
By using teams trained in the latest techniques, Cindy Wade, RN, Lincoln County Healthcare Senior Vice President of Hospital Operations, said the new center should be able to dramatically speed up healing time for many types of wounds.
“It is improved quality of life. If you can heal the wound quicker, people are going to get back to their normal routines faster,” said Wade.
The new wound care center is one of several initiatives by Lincoln County Healthcare, including same-day and Saturday appointments at Lincoln Medical Partners practices and a new paramedicine partnership with Lincoln County ambulance services, that are designed to make health care more accessible and affordable so people can stay independent longer with better quality of life.
Surgeon Mark Mainella, DO, Medical Director of the new facility, said that while there have been many recent advancements in the field, wounds are often treated differently from facility to facility depending on the provider and their knowledge of the latest techniques.
With the training and research offered by Healogics, Mainella said the new center can offer the latest proven technology and standardized treatments, all in an atmosphere completely focused on wound care.
In addition to Dr. Mainella, staff at the center includes Surgeon Garth Miller, MD, Clinical Coordinator Susan Papineau, RN, WCC, and Terry Crosby, RN, WCC, each of whom has received specialized training at the Healogics training facility in Jacksonville, Fla.
“We are proud of our team here,” said Program Director Michael Boardman. “We have been diligent in our efforts to develop a team and a culture where patients feel comfortable while they receive the very best wound care possible, right here in Mid-Coast Maine.”
Candidates for treatment at the new center include people who suffer from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, radiation injuries to soft tissue and bone, compromised skin grafts and flaps, and wounds that haven't healed within 30 days.
When appropriate, LincolnHealth Wound Care Center patients may also have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and multi-center studies.
