Why I vote no
Dear Editor:
The proposal put forth by Boothbay Elders (as Elders they should know better) is sufficiently broad and vague so as to encourage hijinks down the road.
As a measure largely contingent on participation of agencies known only by alphabet soup initials and operated by non-elected officials, thus offering a dodge, common with elected politicians (sadly our small place counts them among us) to deflect blame when things go awry, money vanishes and, needlessly, our pockets are rifled to pay the bill.
Naturally, since “job creation” is the mantra of all politicians, local and national and, Lord knows, because of these very politicians, jobs these days are at a premium. Taxpayers are asked to rubber stamp a measure which appears ego-preening at best and mysteriously vanishing money at worst.
Let's revisit this in 25 years.
