"The President's Cake" - (PG-13; 1 hour, 45 minutes - in Arabic with English subtitles) - While people across 1990's Iraq struggle to survive, 9-year old Lamia has been selected to prepare a cake to celebrate the President's birthday. In a landscape of fear and scarcity, where basic ingredients are nearly impossible to find, Lamia sets out on a determined journey throughout the big city in search of eggs, flour, and sugar. Accompanied by her grandmother, her loyal friend Saeed, and her pet rooster Hindi, she navigates vendors and police officers along the way. Final showtimes: Thursday, April 16 at 1 p.m. - note early start time - and 7 p.m.
Y Arts presents: "9 to 5 JR." – Live on stage! - Set in the Rolodex era of the late 1970s, coworkers Violet, Judy and Doralee are tired of Mr. Hart, their bully of a boss. Together, they concoct a plan to liberate their office from his reign and learn that they are unstoppable when they work together. In a hilarious turn of events, the trio gives their workplace a dream makeover! Perfomances are at 5 p.m. April 16 and 17. Tickets are $10 general admission (purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended for Y Arts performances).
"Project Hail Mary" - (PG-13; 2 hours, 36 minutes) - Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction... but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone. Playing Friday April 17 at 1 and 7 p.m.; at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 and Wednesday, April 22; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 and Thursday, April 23.
"The Audience" - National Theater Live - (PG-13; 2 hours, 40 minutes) - This encore presentation returns to cinemas for the first time in over a decade. Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth II in the Olivier and Tony Award® -winning hit production, directed by Stephen Daldry. For 60 years, Queen Elizabeth II met with each of her 12 prime ministers in a private weekly meeting. This meeting is known as "The Audience." From Winston Churchill to Margaret Thatcher and David Cameron, the Queen advised her prime ministers on matters both public and personal. Through these private audiences, we see glimpses of the woman behind the crown and witness the moments that shaped a monarch.
