This week at the Harbor Theater
"Ghost Elephants" - (NR; 1 hour, 39 minutes) - In the mist-shrouded highlands of Angola, where myth and memory intertwine, three KhoiSan master trackers set out on a remarkable journey to find the legendary “ghost elephants” of Lisima—creatures long thought lost, yet kept alive through ancestral stories, ritual, and spiritual connection. For more than a decade, conservation biologist and National Geographic Explorer Dr. Steve Boyes has searched these remote forests for evidence of the elusive herd. Now, joined by some of the world’s most skilled trackers, he embarks on an extraordinary expedition into one of Africa’s last untouched wildernesses. From acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog, "Ghost Elephants" is both a breathtaking adventure and a deeply reflective exploration of nature, culture, and the fragile line between myth and reality. This visually stunning documentary invites audiences into a world rarely seen—where discovery is as much about listening to the past as it is about uncovering the unknown. Wednesday, April 29, 2 p.m. (there are no captions for this film), Thursday, April 30, 7 p.m.
“It’s a portrait of obsession that, while gentler than some of Herzog’s other works, is mesmerizing from the first moment to the last, yet another title of note in what remains one of the most incredible filmographies of our time.” – Peter Sobczynski, RogerEbert.com
