This week at the Harbor Theater
"The Testament Of Ann Lee" - (R; 2 hours, 17 minutes) - From acclaimed writer-director Mona Fastvold comes a bold reimagining of the true story of Ann Lee, the visionary founder of the Shakers. Amanda Seyfried delivers a commanding performance as the movement’s charismatic leader, whose radical beliefs in gender and social equality inspired fierce devotion—and deep controversy. Blending history with lyrical invention, The Testament of Ann Lee traces the ecstasy and sacrifice of Lee’s pursuit of a spiritual utopia. The film is infused with more than a dozen traditional Shaker hymns, transformed into striking musical sequences with choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall, alongside an evocative original score and songs by Daniel Blumberg. At once intimate and rapturous, the film is a singular portrait of faith, devotion, and the cost of visionary change. Wednesday, March 4, 2 p.m. (OCAP), Thursday, March 5, 7 p.m.
“Amanda Seyfried shines as Ann Lee, delivering a potent performance, her eyes lit with commanding devotion.” – Maxwell Rabb, Chicago Reader
“Top marks go to the composer Daniel Blumberg, whose richly cacophonous achievement here is head-spinning to say the least.” – David Jenkins, Little White Lies
"Wuthering Heights" - (R; 2 hours, 16 minutes) - Emily Brontë’s haunting classic returns to the screen in a bold new adaptation written and directed by Emerald Fennell. Starring Jacob Elordi as the brooding Heathcliff and Margot Robbie as the fiercely independent Catherine Earnshaw, this reimagining captures the sweeping passion and destructive intensity of one of literature’s most enduring love stories. Set against the wild beauty of the Yorkshire moors, the film follows the all-consuming bond between Heathcliff—an orphan taken in by the Earnshaw family—and Catherine, whose love for him defies class, convention, and reason.
When pride and social ambition pull them apart, heartbreak curdles into obsession, setting in motion a generational tale of longing, revenge, and emotional reckoning. Visually lush and emotionally charged, "Wuthering Heights" offers audiences a timeless story of love at its most transcendent—and most ruinous—brought vividly to life for a new generation. Friday, March 6, 7 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2 p.m. (OCAP), Thursday, March 12, 7 p.m.
“Meet Emily Brontë’s 'Euphoria.' That’s how director Emerald (Saltburn) Fennell’s swoony reimagining of the author's transgressive, thorny 1837 novel struck me.” – Thelma Adams, AARP Movies for Grownups
