Veggies to Table hosting foraging class July 13
Veggies to Table, a grow-to-donate farm in Newcastle will be hosting a foraging class with Rachel Alexandrou on July 13 to raise funds to feed hungry people in our community.
The nonprofit has donated more than 57,000 pounds of high quality vegetables to date with even more growth and donations underway for this season. As over 1 in 7 Mainers go hungry each day and 43% of school children rely on school meals daily, the need for accessible, nutritious food is vital.
The foraging class, which consists of an edible plant walk and cooking demo, will be led by expert forager and wild food cook Rachel Alexandrou on Saturday, July 13. She will share her deep knowledge of wild edibles and how to properly harvest and prepare the food with attendees.
Alexandrou is an artist and forager who uses her education in plant science, and collaborative practice, to create experiential work about food, flora, and innovating human relationships to the natural landscape.
The event will be hosted on the Veggies to Table’s farm from 10 a.m to noon. The cost of the event is $60 with 25 spots available.
There will be cookbooks and field guides for sale for those inspired to continue their foraging apprenticeship. Wild refreshments will be served at the end of the plant walk. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Veggies to Table.
