Updated: Minor injuries in afternoon crash

At about 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 an accident was reported on Kenney Field Drive in Boothbay Harbor.

Beverly Royal, 76, of Boothbay Harbor was driving her 2011 Chevy Malibu southbound when she rear-ended a Hancock Lumber 2005 International truck, which was parked on the side of the road.

Hancock Lumber driver Brian Etheridge, 59, was outside of the truck tightening the straps on his load at the time of the collision.The truck’s four-way flashers were on.

According to Police Chief Bob Hasch, responding Police Officer Brent Barter reported the Hancock truck was half in and half out of the road.

Royal sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene by medical personnel from Boothbay Region Ambulance Service and driven to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

Etheridge was not injured. He could not comment on the accident, per company policy. 

Kenney Field Drive residents Mark and Georgia Leeman live adjacent to the accident site and heard the crash. Said Georgia, “(The lumber driver) was parked on the side of the road checking the straps holding the load of lumber ... She just drove right into the truck.”

The Chevy sustained damage to the hood; the lower area of the windshield was crushed. 

The Boothbay Harbor Fire Department also responded to the scene of the accident.

No further investigation is pending.
