Update: Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford said Thursday that the brush fire on Back Narrows Road on Wednesday morning “appeared to be started from an electric spark from the top of a utility pole.”

Original Post: A quick response by Boothbay firefighters Wednesday morning, April 12 kept a brush fire at 165 Back Narrows Road from spreading to nearby homes.

The fire came within 15 feet of the closest residence and followed a path toward the road, according to firefighter David Pratt. The wind direction helped keep it from the residence, according to Dan Bryer, a neighborhood resident who showed up at the fire.

About 15 firefighters responded when the call came in just before 9 a.m. and they had the flames extinguished within minutes. The fire’s cause was not known at this time.
